Jon Gordon may not be one of the gurus in The Secret, but that hasn’t stopped him from writing this business parable about how one guy used the law of attraction to turn his life around.
George is downright miserable. His home life is in shambles. He’s got a major product launch in two weeks that must go well or he will lose his job. And to top it off, his car’s in the shop for the next two weeks, leaving George no other option but to take the bus to work each day. Could things get worse?
Luckily for George, the bus isn’t just any old bus. It’s driven by an upbeat lady named Joy and contains a colorful array of passengers determined to infuse positive optimism in George’s life. Each day, they impart a new rule to spark George’s passions and push him out of his funk. Each day, as George learns these new ways of thinking, he takes a step towards changing his beliefs – and his life.
The rules are simple yet are life altering. Rule #1 states
“Always remember that you are the driver of your bus. It’s the most important of the rules because if you don’t take responsibility for your life and control of your bus then you can’t take it where you want to go. If you’re not the driver, then you’ll always be at the whim of everyone else’s travel plans.”
The rest of the rules build upon this one.
The story is similar to Steve Farber’s The Radical Edge. It’s a quick, motivational read focused around getting you to think positively and use the law of attraction in your business life. Gordon provides an 11 step action plan to help you focus and offers bus tickets on his site TheEnergyBus.com to help you get others on board with your vision. You can even print out motivational posters to inspire you.
