30 Day Secret Experiment – A Site Purpose of Sorts

I started the construction of this site on Sunday afternoon. The idea had been floating around in my head for the past week or so, and Sunday afternoon, I finally had some time to get it up and running.

That makes today – Day 3 of my 30 Day Secret Experiment.

The SecretIn short, I can’t say I’m a whole-hearted believer in The Secret and the Law of Attraction. Some of the principles just don’t make sense to me – like the pseudoscience they try to pass off for quantum physics. Others seem rather implausible – like that Esther Hicks receives her messages by channeling supernatural beings called Abraham. And I have an extremely difficult time believing that the Universe is like a genie ready and waiting to grant you anything you’d like. Call me a skeptic. Or a “negative thinker” or whatever you want.

But right now, The Secret is the next thing since sliced bread – even Oprah said as much (though I can’t claim to be an Oprah fan, either). I watched the movie last year when it came out and I thought it was inspiring, but nothing life changing.

So, I set up this site as an experiment.

Does The Secret Really Work?
The Secret (Extended Edition) That’s the question everyone’s asking, it seems. Or perhaps, “why isn’t it working for me?” There are, of course, lots of people out there that swear that The Secret works for them in their every day lives and many, many miracles have taken place since they learned this Secret.

Whichever side of the fence you’re on, there’s a pretty good chance you realize that if you simply sit on your butt all day wishing, you probably aren’t going to get what you want. It also stands to reason that if continue doing the same thing you’re doing, the outcome isn’t going to change. You’ll still get the same result.

Or as Albert Einstein put it: “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” (Einstein also said “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”)

Honestly, I have no idea if The Secret “works”. I suppose that’s all semantics. Does it work “every time… no exceptions”? I doubt it. Even the law of gravity – which the Secreteers compare the law of attraction to – has exceptions. We know that on Earth, in a controlled environment such as a vacuum, a feather and a rock will both fall at about 9.8 meters per second ^2. That’s one of Newton’s laws.

We also know that if we dropped a feather and a rock off the same building at the same time, the rock would hit the ground first and the feather would float its way down. And we know that the gravitational force on the moon or Mars is different from Earth. We know that a particle moving close to the speed of light doesn’t quite follow Newtonian laws. But scientists have mathematical formulas to account for the changes – and they’ve run independent experiments to test these conditions and gotten the same results as the mathematical formulas predicted.

In the case of the law of attraction, we don’t have either part (the mathematical theory describing the law of attraction or the scientific experiments).

Now, you might say so what – especially if you’ve never liked science. What does it matter if the science is bunk – or unproven? I suppose it doesn’t, except the Secreteers appeal to science again and again in order to prove their authority. Science says it works, so you should believe. It’s a bit more compelling than “believe because I told you so.” So when the underlying principle they appeal to turns out to be false, it’s difficult to believe them when they say “it works every time… no exceptions.”

My 30 Day Law of Attraction Experiment
The Law of Attraction In Action By now, you’re probably thinking I sound like a complete skeptic and if I’m hoping to test The Secret, I’m going to fail miserably due to my negative thinking.

Perhaps that’s true, but I do believe strongly in the power of focus and in taking action. So, I set up a challenge for myself, and The Secret seemed like a good topic to choose given its popularity.

I’m currently experimenting with ways to make money online. I’ve tried a number of things, and I have some sense of what works and what doesn’t. I’ve read so much stuff online from gurus claiming to have made $5 billion in 3 days working only 2 hours and came away unimpressed.

Many of the tactics they used were downright sleazy – or outright lies. Others only work for certain niches or for a short period of time. Still others just didn’t work.

But one caught my eye – it challenged me to go from $0/day starting from scratch to $30/day in only 30 days. There weren’t many specifics on how to accomplish this, but I thought it would be interesting to try. It also made for an interesting experiment – how far can I get if I focus on something a few hours each day (this is only a part time thing)?

It will also make for an interesting ebook once I’m finished (How I used the law of attraction to make $30/day in only 30 days or some other hype filled title.)

[ Please note - since I have pretty lofty goals, virtually all the links I can use within this website will be affiliate links.]

Today’s day 3 and I haven’t made any money yet. I’ll keep you posted on my progress throughout the month.
